According to foodimentary it is National Peanut Butter Lover’s day!  I recommend celebrating with at least a glob or two today.  🙂

Oatmeal anyone?

How will you celebrate?

It’s time to get back to normal eating.  I also want to take my exercise down a notch for this week.  I have a pretty good feeling knee and hip, so I want to keep it that way.

Today is a cardio day.  A 3 mile run sounds good.  I want to get some walking in too.  Walking sounds fun today.  It’s cool out and it sounds like my speed.  I am a bit slow this morning, but I actually feel way better than I expected considering my eats yesterday.

For breakfast it was oatmeal with blueberries, banana and pecans.

 

I swear there is oatmeal and banana in there somewhere.  🙂

Happy Thursday!

Yay!  We are almost there, a nice long weekend!  I think there is a chance my husband might actually get the weekend off!

For breakfast today I had oatmeal.  Carrot Cake Oatmeal!

Drizzled with a touch of amber agave it really hit the spot!  I have other plans for it too!  I think I also might need to make a carrot quick bread soon!

Today being my cardio day, I think I want to do something other than running.  My knee/hips have been feeling better than they have in a very long time and I am so afraid of messing that up.  So I am going to do a training program on my stationary bike today.

When we bought the bike I had my reservations.  I wanted a cool spin bike, but my husband thought if it were a recumbent he would actually use it.  I thought if that were the case then ok, I would get that one.  Two years later and he has not touched it except for  the few times he sat on it when we got it and I have a new opinion on them.

I thought they would be “lazy” or something.  I guess because of its recumbent position, all laid back!  It is not the case!  That bike can really give me a kick in the rear!  Sometimes I would rather run 10 miles than do some of those training programs!  You can’t stand up and let gravity do the work on a recumbent.  It’s all you!

I would like to add a spin bike to my home gym just for a change-up.  That and an elliptical.  I love working out at home.  Piece by piece, I am building a pretty cool “gym” downstairs.  I used to go to a gym but the best one is 20-25 minutes away and in the time I drove there and back, you could have a pretty good workout done already!  I do have a little girl too, and I would not feel comfortable putting her in the gyms care while I worked out.  My sister-in-law does it and has no problem with it.  I am sure it’s fine, just not for me.  In addition, I also like working out in a sports bra and shorts or training pants.  Something I would not feel comfortable doing in a full gym.  🙂

Do any of you prefer working out at home or the gym?  What is your favorite form of cardio?  If it’s running, what do you do for cross training?

Good Wednesday morning!

It feels like it should be Friday for me.  It’s been a long week and I feel a little slow today.  Almost all of my water weight is gone today.  That’s a plus!  I figure it will be back to normal by the week’s end.  I really hope this new medication will help me with that next month.  I know it goes away after about a week, but it is still no fun when it happens!

Today being a circuit day, I will do Gabby Reece’s  Kaanapali Circuit Workout!  If you click on the link you will see the workout listed as well as demos of the moves.

I love the name of this circuit because I got to spend a week in Kaanapali Beach, Maui in 1997.  My husband (then boyfriend) won the trip and it was all expenses paid (including gratuity!) and wonderful!  I never wanted to come home!  We will make it back there one day.  For now I will just do my circuit with the same name.  Sigh.

Deciding my workout was easy now on to breakfast! I had oatmeal but with a small change-up.  Pumpkin oatmeal!   I sprinkled on the usual, banana, flax-seed, pecans, and pumpkin seeds.  As I was eating it I decided it was missing something so I sprinkled on some chopped dates too!  That made it!

Now I am off to get my workout done.  After my cozy bowl of oats and the cool rainy weather outside I just want to curl up on the sofa and be lazy.  There is time for that later.  It’s time to hit the circuit!

Well I did not have breakfast before my workout like normal but  don’t worry, I made up for it!

My chocolate oatmeal was back with PB, frozen banana, and peanuts!  I still felt hungry and had a small chunk of my GF Zucchini Bread!  I like it more and more each time I eat it!

I had it with a tall glass of ice-cold milk!  (It really is ice-cold due to my crazy fridge.)

I feel full at least for now.  We are off to grandma and grandpa’s for a little visit.  I am not sure what eats I will find for the rest of the day.  For dinner it probably will be left over taco stuff since I have my work cut out for me tonight.

Tomorrow is an annual barbecue we go to.  Every year I am asked to make the potato salad.  I am not kidding, I make 15+ pounds of this stuff and I never leave with any to take home!  They can’t get enough!  It’s a lot of work but it’s only once a year and I like that it is a favorite!

So, I need to go buy 10 lbs of potatoes, a dozen eggs….the list goes on, I have shopping to do!

Today is my cardio day.  It was a good one because I got to go for a run on my own!  I didn’t have dogs begging to go (which makes me feel bad when I don’t take them, they are too little to run too far a distance so I usually walk them for my warm up.), or negotiations to make with my three-year old to get out the door.  I just got to go!

It was cool this morning.  Perfect running weather!  I love running in the fall.  It is my favorite time of year and it feels like it’s on its way.  I started with my five-minute walk to warm up, then I stretched, and ran!  I ran for 50 minutes today!  No pain!  Only some tightness in one hip (my good one) but other than that it felt great!

For breakfast I had oatmeal, but this time with a twist.  Yesterday I kept thinking that a zucchini bread type oatmeal would be good but I was too hungry in the morning to experiment with it.  I did not want to have crummy oatmeal and still be hungry if it did not turn out so well.  🙂

I was looking at blogs yesterday and saw that ohsheglows had posted the very same thing!  What luck!  Now I had a recipe to work with.  Here is how I did mine:

  • 1/3 c rolled oats
  • 1 c unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 c finely grated zucchini
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • dash salt
  • sprinkling of pecans
  • sprinkling of raisins
  • drizzle of amber agave nectar

I combined the oats, cinnamon, salt, and unsweetened milk and cooked it on the stove untill it was slightly thick and bubbly (The smell of this alone made me think of those sugar-cinnamon covered roasted almonds at christmas time in the mall!  Intoxicating!)

Then I added the zucchini  and cooked it a bit more until it was the consistency that I liked.  I poured it into the bowl (It looked like zucchini bread batter!) and topped it off with the pecans and raisins.  I drizzled the whole thing with agave nectar!

What a treat!  Talk about voluminous.  It was very filling and satisfying, and will show up in my oatmeal bowl again!  Don’t you just love the pretty green flecks in it?!

For breakfast…Oatmeal!  Banana, dates, pecans, flax seeds, millet and pepitas!  So yummy!  I had it before my workout.

Afterwards, I needed a snack of greek yogurt, honey and dried blueberries!  I love keeping the berries in the refrigerator.  It makes them cold and chewy!  Yum!

Now I need to get some things together for my dogs and daughters overnight stay with grandma and grandpa tonight!  I have errands to run, a bay window to stain, a deck to stain, a lawn to mow, and a doctor’s appointment tomorrow.  Maybe I can squeeze a walk or run in too!  We will see.  If nothing else a run all by myself in the AM!  What a treat!

I’m a little confused because Wed felt like a Friday since my husband had yesterday off.  Who doesn’t like two Fridays in a week?  I feel great today too!

I love to start and end the work week with a circuit.  Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are usually circuit days for me.  I like to get at least 40 minutes of exercise every morning (alternating cardio and circuit) and if I get to take a walk, run, or bike ride in the afternoon or evening it’s a bonus.  This way I know I will get at least some activity in my day.

Today’s circuit:

It’s of course, a Gabby Reece Circuit (#11 I changed above).  I am looking forward to it.  I love the “Clean and Jerk” move.  It’s a total body one!  When the circuits are shorter like this one, I like to focus on formn and up the weight!

Good Morning!

Last night I left off with having a smoothie and figuring I would not eat again that night.  I was wrong!  I ended up eating 6 walnut stuffed dates (they were small, the ones left at the bottom of the container) and two cups of Puffins PB cereal dry!  In the past I probably would not have eaten again since I told myself that I would not.  Last night I was hungry, so I ate.  I love intuitive eating!  Eating when you are hungry rocks!

I feel great this morning and it’s time for a circuit!  I did  a Gabby Reece  one of course.  With this one I added a move at the end (#12) because I felt like doing it.  Here it goes:

As for breakfast it was:  Oatmeal-a beautiful mess of fruit (there is some banana hiding st the bottom!), nuts and seeds!

That hit the spot.  Then it was time to get down to the basement and get my workout done.  It was a good one!  I iced my knee and then felt a little off.  Not quite shaky, but close so I decided it was time for an early lunch.

It was a tasty sliced chicken sandwich with Muenster, lettuce and tomato on sprouted bread!  I made my husband one this morning for his lunch and it sounded good for me too.

He was tasty as usual!

As for the rest of my day, it will involve taking my daughter/dogs to my parents house, cleaning, removing all the window treatments, and moving furniture.  We are getting new windows installed tomorrow!  I am so excited!  The current ones are only 11 years old but were standard builder issue and not so good.

Yay, I will not have frost on the inside of my windows this winter!  I am more excited for my cat and dogs.  They are getting a new bay window to sit in!  I am pretty sure they will love it.  🙂

Yesterday I was thinking about an “Almond Joy” type oatmeal.  Well, today I put it into action.  I made an oatmeal that tasted pure evil, but was actually pretty good for me!

I used the following:

  • 1/3 c rolled oats
  • 1 scant c of water
  • dash of sea salt
  • 1 TBS of unsweetened coco powder
  • 2 TBS unsweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 tsp agave nectar
  • chopped almonds
  • 1 square Green & Blacks 70% Organic Dark chocolate chopped

I made the oatmeal with the first 4 ingredients.  I like it on the thin side.  Then I mixed the agave syrup with the shredded coconut placed it on top of the oatmeal.  With a sprinkling of almonds and chocolate I had an oatmeal to curb a candy bar craving!

Today is my cardio day.  For some reason I felt like doing an ab workout first.  I did a Gabby Reece one: 7 Moves to a 6-Pack Success

I did three rounds of this:

  1. Oblique Sit-up -elbow to knee, elbow to knee (on a stability ball or mat)
    15 reps to your right and 15 to your left
  2. V-Up stability ball handoffs 15
  3. V in – out 20 Reps
  4. Russian Twist 15 Reps 8 lb medicine ball
  5. V-Up Single Leg Alternating Legs 12 Reps Each leg
  6. Straight Up Straight Down 15 Reps
  7. Scissors 30 Reps Each

It was a good one.  I think I am going to grab two brown rice cakes with PB and banana and take everyone out for a walking warm up, then try a run.  Wish me luck! If nothing else I will have had a nice walk.
